As the current President of Democracy and Constitution Literacy Center, I’m happy to endorse Hamid Munir. Hamid’s story as an immigrant to America who overcame preconceptions and stereotypes to find success and become an influential community leader reminds us all that the American dream is still alive.

As a Fairfax County Public Schools member-at-large, Hamid will inspire others to find their own success. He will ensure that our schools serve all our children, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, or wealth. And he will build and strengthen bridges among the diverse communities of Fairfax County.

Karen Corbett Sanders

Fairfax County School Board Member

I have had the honor of working with Hamid Munir both in a number of the schools in Mount Vernon, as well as in the community in support the students and families on the Route 1 corridor.

Hamid is an empathetic leader who worked closely with the interfaith community to bring much needed resources to those with the highest needs. His leadership begins with listening and brings people together. His skills as a project manager in the hi-tech field are important as FCPS navigates this environment.

I wholeheartedly support Hamid Munir for an At Large Member of the Fairfax County School Board.

Ghazala Hashmi

State Senator

Hamid Munir is a voice of calm clarity, the antidote we need for today’s disease of anger and confusion. His leadership as a Board Member-at-Large will help bring the many voices of Fairfax community together to strengthen Fairfax County Public Schools and build a solid foundation for all Fairfax children. I am happy to endorse Hamid Munir for Fairfax County School Board At-Large.

Atif Qarni

Former VA Secretary of Education

I am excited to endorse Hamid Munir for Fairfax County School Board At-Large. Hamid has extensive leadership experience promoting students’ educational success and wellbeing at the local, state and national PTA level, giving him a unique perspective related to family engagement, school culture and safety, and programs that are bringing opportunities to students.

Virginia is one of the top states and Fairfax County is one of the top divisions in the country for public education. However, there are still challenges and opportunities for improvement.

I am confident that Hamid has the skills, character, and relationship building to make him an excellent school board member to represent the largest school division in Virginia, and one of the largest school divisions in the country.

Paul Krizek

State Delegate

“When we look towards the future of the school board, we believe it is essential that we have members whom have experience in our schools, are community leaders that work to solve issues affecting our families, and have the professional skills necessary to govern and oversee the management of a $3.5 billion budget with almost 40,000 employees. Hamid has both the professional and leadership skills necessary to be successful on the board.

He has been an active volunteer and PTA leader at the school, county and state level. He also has an expertise intechnology and project management– especially important in the digital world we live in. These skills, combined with an ability to work with people from all walks of life, make him an excellent candidate for the Fairfax County School Board.

We have known Hamid as a leader in local regional, state and national PTAs. He has been passionate about student success and meeting the needs of some of our most vulnerable students with a local food bank. He has also been a leader in the local inter-faith collaborative, Ventures in Community. We are happy to endorse Hamid Munir’s candidacy for the Fairfax County School Board.”

Connie Lorentzen

FIRST VICE CHAIR OF THE FAIRFAX COUNTY COUNCIL CHAIR OF THE FCPS ADVISORY COMMITTEE FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES(ACSD)

My name is Connie Lorentzen. I grew up in Maryland, attended the UofMd, and taught school for a decade; before getting married and moving to Virginia. When my children started school I joined the PTA, in the Mount Vernon District, and later served as the First Vice Chair of the Fairfax County Council, and Chair of the FCPS Advisory Committee for Students with Disabilities(ACSD). I am pleased to endorse Hamid Munir as a candidate for the FCPS At- Large.

Hamid Munir is a Fairfax County local; he immigrated to Fairfax County and he is both a FCPS and GMU grad. Now, Hamid Munir is married and their three children attend FCPS. As a member of the Mount Vernon High School PTSA, I have seen Hamid volunteer his time at the local, district and state level PTA for many years, I can attest to his character and contributions to the efforts of the PTSA to collaborate with parents and schools; not only in Fairfax County but across the state to solve problems and celebrate successes. Hamid Munir has demonstrated a positive, calm way and a can-do attitude. Hamid Munir’s selflessness shows a strong sense of community and empathy for others. Hamid has the leadership and business skills we need to serve on the Fairfax School Board. Thank you for taking the time to consider Hamid Munir for your vote! Hamid has my vote for FCPS At-Large.

Cathy Hosek

MVCCA EDUCATION CHAIR, CO-FACILITATOR OF VENTURES IN COMMUNITY, REP ON FCPS FACILITIES

I have known Hamid for several years and he has been deeply engaged in our local public schools. He served as PTSA President at my daughter’s school and we have worked on many projects together to benefit both the staff and students.

Hamid understands and works on ways to bring parents to the education table. He is a problem solver who listens and works hard to find a solution. He is a strong advocate for public education, and he will be a great asset to the School Board and Fairfax County.

Kris Amundson

FORMER PRESIDENT AND CEO OF THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF STATE BOARDS OF EDUCATION, FORMER FCPS BOARD CHAIR, DELEGATE (1999-2009)

I am happy to endorse Hamid Munir for Fairfax County School Board At-Large. Hamid Munir is a community leader on issues ranging from child abuse to food and housing insecurity. He’s a tech professional at a time when the school system is still struggling with online learning. And he’s a parent leader, working tirelessly in parent-teacher organizations.

Hamid has the background, education, and advocacy experience to serve as powerful, yet calm and reconciliatory voice of the Fairfax County Community as a School Board member at large. Hamid has my strong support!

Jenna White

PARENT OF FCPS STUDENTS,
EDUCATION ADVOCATE

Hamid will bring years of experience as a parent to the School Board, providing a needed voice that understands the ins and outs of what staff, students and families need. I have worked alongside him for years as a PTA leader where I have seen firsthand the tireless work he puts in for public education.

Naila Alam

Council member, Town of Herndon

I am happy to endorse Hamid Munir for Fairfax County School Board At-Large position. By electing Hamid to place his steadfast hand on the rudder that guides Fairfax County Public Schools, the FCPS Board will be able to steer its way through the storms that lie ahead. He will bring strength of character to the Board, helping mediate and lead. And he will use his years of experience in technology to guide FCPS in a world where artificial intelligence and ubiquitous access to a world of information and misinformation has created new challenges and opportunities for the modern digital citizen. He has my vote.

Dan Storck

Supervisor Mount Vernon

“I have known Hamid for many years as a strong advocate, leader and organizer in our school PTAs and community.  I have seen first hand how Hamid has built positive relationships in the Mount Vernon community.  He is measured, collaborative, and knowledgeable with strong experience advocating on behalf of students and families. He is committed to excellence in education for every student, while understanding the importance of accountability.  He would be an excellent At-Large Member of the School Board.”
